Some exciting news from our competitions co-ordinator - this year we will be setting up a brand new competitions team directed entirely at intermediate level dancers. This group is aimed at people who have not performed with us yet this year either in the 24-Hour Show or the Freshers' Show and are looking for great opportunity to do so.
This group will be entered into three different competitions: Salford on 25/01/2014 Manchester on 15/02/2014 Sheffield on 01/03/2014 People wanting to compete should make sure they're free on all three dates. We are holding auditions to be part of this competitions group in the following style and on the following days: Tuesday 29th October 8.30-9.30pm Contemporary 9.30-10.30pm Jazz Thursday 31st October 8.30-9.30pm Street 9.30-10.30pm Hiphop All auditions will be held in the Lower Refectory. So as to involve as many people as possible, dancers will be restricted to performing in only one dance but please come to as many auditions as you'd like! Rehearsals for the group will start after reading week and will take up around 2 hours per week leading up to the competitions. This is a really great opportunity for those of you who have felt left out of dance society and would really love the chance to perform with a like-minded group of people and represent UCLU Dance Soc. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to E-mail our Competitions Co-ordinator Rachael. Hope to see you at these very exciting auditions! Good luck! :)

The 24-Hour Show is a show which raises money for charity. Choreographers in various styles are given 3 surprise tracks on the morning of Saturday 12th October, and have to choreograph and teach a piece to one of these tracks for them and their dancers to perform on the evening of Sunday 13th October.
When: 13th October '13 Time: 7:30pm (Tickets on the door at 7pm) Where: Jeremy Bentham Room Price: £3 COME AND SUPPORT US! Freshers' show is a show on 5th, 6th and 7th of December in the Garage Theatre, designed especially for freshers (and anyone new to the society, including masters students, affiliates etc.) so that they can feel truly part of our great society. It is only freshers who perform in this show and it is always great fun.
The show is made up of various pieces in different styles, all choreographed by students and that's where we need your help! We're looking for choreographers, old members and new (though Freshers are really encouraged!) to bid their choreographies. When: Wednesday 9th October Time: 4 - 8pm Venue: TBC (will be given as soon as possible) If you think you'd like to bid a choreography, here's how: Firstly, send us an email with the following info in it · Your name, email and mobile number · The style of dance you would like to choreograph · Your music choice(s) · Any other ideas for the choreography: the 'visual concept' if you like (i.e costumes, amount of dancers, lighting etc.) · Your availability between 4-8pm on 9th Oct For the bid, you should prepare around 30 seconds of choreography to the music of your choice and be able to answer a few simple questions about your ideas. Rehearsal time will be 1-2hours per week per dance leading up to the show in December which is worth bearing in mind before bidding. If you're interested, email us or write a message on the Facebook page with the above information. THANK YOU to all 178 of you for coming to our Taster Day yesterday! It was a huge success and we really enjoyed dancing with you guys.
