24 Hour Show

Every year in the Dance Society is kicked off by an incredible challenge! The 24-hour show. Can you choreograph and learn a dance to an unknown song in just 24 hours? If yes, this is the show for you. If not, then this is still the show for you because it is just so incredibly fun!! After brief auditions, dancers are picked by choreographers so that a few teams are formed in each dance style- from classical to hip hop, and from jazz to contemporary. Each team is then given a selection of songs to choose from and the weekend to choreograph and learn a routine that will be presented in front of an audience on Sunday evening. This is (in my personal experience) the best way to start your life in DanceSoc- especially if you get nervous around new people and environments. Everyone is so focused on getting everything done within the time constraints that there is literally no time for awkwardness or shyness- BOOM instant friendships, trust me. You can find a playlist of all the pieces from last year’s 24-hour show here.

Freshers' Showcase

It’s all in the name! This show is by freshers, for freshers. You can choreograph and dance in this awesome showcase that involves people that are new to our university and society. After auditions in all dance styles, choreographers chose their dancers and the rehearsals begin. Luckily, in this showcase you get a bit longer than 24 hours to prepare! This show is amazing as you get to bond with all the other dance society newbies! You can find a playlist of all the pieces from last year’s freshers’ showcase here.

Triple Bill Charity Showcase

This is our annual charity showcase! All earnings collected from the tickets to the show are donated to a charity of our choice. What’s also great about this show, is that it is open to dancers of all levels of experience- from first-timers to veterans in the dance world. There are no auditions for this show, so we urge all of you to try something new, either by venturing into the world of dance for the first time, or by trying a style you’ve never done before!
Last year’s showcase was in aid of two important charities: Anthony Nolan and Doctors of the World Anthony Nolan is a charity which helps people with blood cancers or disorders by matching them with people willing to donate their bone marrow. Doctors of the World are a charity which empowers excluded people (including asylum seekers, sex workers and homeless people) to access healthcare. We raised £358 for each charity, meaning £716 in total!

Bloomsbury Show - HUMANS

Now this is the big one! The Bloomsbury Show is the biggest production that UCL Dance Society puts on annually. With an impressive cast of 115 dancers and choreographers the show was incredibly fun to participate in but also watch. “HUMANS”, which was last year’s show, was a collection of stories about the things that make us human told through different styles of dance. It took place in the Shaw Theatre and sold out all three nights. This amazing experience requires hard work and dedication by all cast members but the result is always very rewarding.

Leavers' Showcase

Arguably the most emotional of our productions, this show is created by our leaving members. Held after exams, this show comprises of dances by students who are leaving UCL and will no longer be members of our society. It’s full of laughs and emotions, and it truly is an incredibly fun event for all who are involved (including the sniffling audience).
