Gemma
 President

Hey everyone;))
My name is Gemma and I’m so excited to be your president this year!
I’m a 3rd year medic intercalating in maths and computing in medicine, but I spend more time in dance soc than my own degree, stepping into my 3rd year on committee 😂
I’ve been dancing since I was a little kid, and since being in dance soc, I’ve had the opportunity to try out so many different styles from hip hop, street, break dancing to contemp and jazz and I love that dance soc allows dancers of all levels to find classes or pieces where they can have fun and challenge themselves.
Despite all of this, I remember how scared and nervous I was starting as a freshers in dance soc but I promise it’s worth it! Whether you’re new to UCL, new to dance or been in dance soc previously, I sincerely hope I see you all at the events we offer, be that the incredible classes and workshops, the memorable shows and competitions, or even just joining in our fantastic socials and having a drink with us! I’m really looking forward to what my amazing committee and I can bring to this year’s society and I’m hoping you’ll all love it too.
I’ve enjoyed being in dance soc so much and I hope that you can have a similar experience and have lots of fun! Feel free to come and say hi when you see me around campus - you’ll probably see me in most of the classes and workshops this year, but if not I’ll be hiding in cruci:0
Have a great rest of summer and see y’all in a month! <3

Emma
Vice President

Heyy! My name is Emma and I’m so excited to be your Vice President next year🤩
I’m a 3rd year Cancer Biomedicine student from the UK and have been involved in all things dance soc the past two years. As VP, you’ll see me producing the 24h show in October (keep an eye out for sign-ups soon!!), struggling to carry costumes round campus, and doing a load of other random things to help keep dance soc slaying
I’ve been dancing since I was 4 years old. I’m a tap girlie at heart but have done jazz, Latin, ballroom and contemp in the past too. I’ve also vowed to try street this year so if you need someone to hide at the back of the class with hmu😉
If you have any questions about dance at UCL feel free to dm me @emma.1901 !! Xx

Polina

Bloomsbury Producer

Hi! My name is Polina, but u can call me Poli:) I will be the new Blooms Show Producer for dance soc!
I am originally from Moscow, Russia, but have been living in England for almost 7 years now and I am going into my 2nd year of Management Science BSc.
As any russian girl, my dance journey started w ballet, but i have found my passion for dance when I have switched to contemp. Now, I would consider my main styles to be contemp and street, although u might still see me in weekly hip-hop classes trying (and failing) to learn more (i will be a hip-hop girlie in no time #manifesting ). Dancing helped me through my toughest times and continues to be my main source of inspiration, it is part of who i am.
That’s y i am so honored to be this year’s Blooms producer as I see this as an opportunity to showcase the very best dance society has to offer. It is a great responsibility to produce such a big show, but I am very excited to bring in new ideas and create opportunity for talented dancers in our society to showcase their choreo/dancing abilities on a big stage of bloomsbury theatre. I have a wonderful team of 8 other dancers/prod team members, who are also contributing immensely to the creation of the show and we cannot wait to share everything with u! So follow @ucldanceblooms account for more information!
Dance soc has been my family since day one and I have met a lot of amazing people here, so I hope to continue creating a welcoming environment, where we can bond over our love for dance, performing and stage. So feel free to reach out to me, @poli_von, if u have any questions about the Blooms show!
See u in september!

Kayley
Tech Officer

Hi everyone I'm Kayley, your tech officer for the year, currently into my second year studying pharmacy. I started doing hip hop back in secondary school but paused due to a lower back injury. Thankfully I picked it back up through dance soc at ucl, which made my first year extra fruitful!

My role is as straightforward as it gets, I'll be in charge of everything techy, including filming the dance shows, editing videos, managing our society website and updating the YouTube channel. If you have any enquiries regarding the videos or our website, you are most welcome to come to me :)

Looking ahead, I'm excited to celebrate your best moments on stage by capturing and delivering them back to you promptly. You can catch me filming at the back of the show venues, or simply at hip hop/ street classes. If you happen to spot me on campus, don't hesitate to come say hi! Can't wait to see you all :D

Alena
Freshers' Rep

Hey y’all! My name is Alena, I am doing an MSc in International City Planning and I am one of your new Freshers Reps!

I’ve started dancing with ballet when I was young, and then performing in a young jazz company for a few years before beginning modern and contemporary dance. In my undergrad, I minored in dance and was a dancer & choreographer of jazz and contemporary for my school’s dance company, while taking classes and performing in flamenco dance (which is still one the coolest/most fun things I’ve gotten to do). Since being apart of UCL dance soc, I choreographed & danced for 24 Hour Show, choreographed & danced for Freshers Show, and am choreographing & dancing for Triple Bill!

My role this year is mainly to support and contribute to the work of the rest of the committee, which includes being on the production team for our upcoming Triple Bill charity show (make sure to come support!!) and the socials production team (sign up for our Budapest tour if you haven’t yet 👀👀 I’m so freaking excited, I’ve never been to Budapest).

Please reach out about any freshers concerns or questions (undergrad or postgrad) and say hi! Excited to meet you all❤️

Melissa
Freshers' Rep

Hello, my name is Melissa and I am doing my masters at UCL. I am very passionate about dance and I have been self-thaught for the most of my journey. I dance jazz and contemporary, occasionally I try street style. I am happy to be Freshers representative this year and encourage everyone to love to dance :).

Andrea
Resident Choreographer

Hey everyone!! I’m Andrea, a first-year geography student and will be your resident choreographer for the rest of this year 🕺🕺

I started ballet at the ripe age of 3 and have never stopped dancing since. I’ve tried some tap and jazz between my ballet years but recently fell in love with contemp (floor girlies rise 🆙). I’ve also been taking on some street and hiphop over the past year, so you’ll see me all over the place in dance soc!

My particular role means that I’ll be the one leading all the warm-ups for full casts and organising finales. I’m also a general resource for all your choreographing needs, so if ever you’re facing choreographer’s block just send me a text and I’d me more than happy to provide a second opinion @andreaxchung

Dance soc has been nothing but inviting, so I fully intend on doing my best to keep bringing the energy and fun! Can’t wait to see you all soon <3

Ellie
Scheduling Officer

Hi everyone, I’m Ellie, a final year law student and I’m going to be the scheduling officer for dance soc this year!
I’ve danced since I was three, doing primarily ballet with a bit of contemporary and jazz mixed in. I’m planning on entering my jazz era this year so I’m sure you’ll see me at the classes :)
My role this year basically involves booking the best available rooms for rehearsals and classes, something which I hope will be aided by the organisational skills picked up during the course of my degree!
Taking part in shows and attending classes has truly enriched my university experience, and I’m so excited to have the opportunity to help with the running of the society for the next academic year! Please feel free to contact me on instagram (@ellielouisepugh) or email ([email protected]) if you have any questions and I’m looking forward to dancing with and getting to know you all next year

Lucia
Communications Officer

Hello chicos, I’m Lucía, I will be your communications officer for the year!!!

I’m from Argentina but moved here to study cell biology, I’m going into my second year now :)
I started doing ballet at 3 and stuck to it ever since (until I came to uni). Then I realized that I had a connection with the floor, both inside and outside the studio (I just kept falling). That attraction made me start contemp and that is the only thing I do now. I would like to start hip hop this year so you might see me embarrassing myself in those classes.

As a communications officer I’m in charge of managing the ig and sending out the weekly mailer. I’m also helping in the production of transcendence, our interuniversity competition (please come participate/watch, it’ll be lit). In second term I will also help with the volunteering program.

I hope to make dance soc a warm environment in which everyone leaves feeling a bit better than when they came. If you ever have any questions or are feeling a bit nervous don’t hesitate to drop me a dm at @lu_cassiat

See you in September <3
