President: Li Ann Hi guys! I’m Li Ann, I’m from Malaysia and I’m a 3rd year law student! I’ve been doing ballet and nothing else since I was 7 (my Asian parents told me to focus on one), but ever since joining UCL I’ve competed and performed in ballet, contemporary, jazz, and even lil bit of beginners’ tap! Like how you might be feeling, it took me a while to find my feet in the dance soc but once you do, it’s the best experience ever and quite honestly my favourite thing about university. I really do hope you enjoy your time here - all I want to be is ‘the people’s president’ and I’m really chatty so I hope you feel like you can approach me about anything and everything! I’ll be the little dancer being lifted/flipped/thrown around in every dance.
Treasurer: Adam Hey everyone! I’m Adam, a 3rd year mathematician. I started dancing by jazz-funk and street, and I dabbled a bit in hiphop. Contemporary is the style I love the most, but I train in jazz technique and ballet too. I’m excited to dance with you all this year, the probability of seeing me in class is incredibly high! I’ll be your treasurer for the upcoming year! “Dance enables you to find yourself and lose yourself at the same time.”
Vice President: Adie Hey! My names Adie and I am a third year Chemistry Student, and Vice Pres for 2017-18! I have been dancing since I was 3 years old, having been promised I could go to classes as long as I stopped sucking my thumb, which apparently worked! Growing up, I danced tap, ballet and modern theatre, but now primarily stick to tap and jazz.
Bloomsbury Producer: Jackie Hi everyone! I'm Jackie, and I'm thrilled to be spending my third year in the committee, and am excited to put on the Bloomsbury Show! I trained in ballet and tap but have had the opportunity to try many new styles such as latin, hiphop, street and more. Hope to see you around!
Communications Officer: Yee ki Hey! This is Yee Ki Au, currently in Psychology Year 2! My not-so-exciting dance background consists of 13 years of classical ballet training. Meanwhile, I’m trying to up my dance exposure and try out as many new styles as possible. Do come explore with me, and inspire me! Of course, do get in touch for inquiries regarding membership, classes, competitions or anything to do with dance really x
Liaisons Officer: Miracle Hey guys! My name is Miracle Abiola (yep real name) I'm a second year Biochemical Engineering student. I'll be running the weekly classes and workshops and booking all the dance teachers for dance soc this year. I started dancing in Year 7 breakdance club at school and did street/hip hop styles as well until Year 11 when I stopped. However coming to UCL and joining the dance soc family has reminded how much I love dancing! If you have any questions about classes, just want to talk about dance or just tell me how cool my name is, come find me! I'll almost certainly be in hip hop or break classes but you may see me taking classes from a few other styles this year...
Competitions Producer: Denise Hello it's your resident competition producer!! My name is Denise (or commonly known in dancesoc as densie/denice haha pls don't call me these though) Started out as your average, stereotypical ballerina at the age of 4 but eventually ventured out further into the scary world of dance~~ and now I guess I dabble in a bit of everything~ If anything, ya girl has found a home within this group of insanely inspiring and humble people of UCL's Dance Soc. - so if you ever wanna boogie it up with some cool people then you oughta hit us up!! I promise I am much friendlier than I look :)
Competitions Coordinator: Evita Hey I’m Evita, a second year Biomedical Sciences student here at UCL! Growing up watching Honey, You Got Served and EVERY Step-Up there is - you can bet I craved moving to music! Hip hop has been my creative outlet ever since and I definitely fell in love with it all over again after seeing how incredible the dance-mosphere was at UCL Dance Society! #DanceFamFTW #Community If you ever bump into an overly enthusiastic kid dancing around campus - be sure to holla at your girl!
Resident Choreographer: Mel Hi I'm Mel. I'm a second year Applied medical science student with a particular passion for contemporary dance. I started dancing at 3 years old when my parents decided I had too much energy and haven't stopped since! I love to travel and have taken dance classes over the world from the USA to Australia and am now almost a qualified dance teacher. I'm so excited to be a part of the UCL dance society committee and see what amazing things the year brings.
Social Secretary: Daisy Hi, I'm Daisy and I'm in my second year at UCL studying History. Despite having only ever done Ballet before joining the society, last year Dance Soc gave me the opportunity to branch out into contemporary and I hope this year to embarrass myself further trying out some hip hop. Please don't let the rbf fool you, as Social Sec I would love for you all come and say hi/chat/gossip- as the social aspect of Dance is definitely one of its most special features!
Scheduling Officer: Poppy Hi! My name is Poppy O’Hagan and I’m the Scheduling Officer for 2017/18. I’m really excited to be getting more involved this year. I’m a 2nd year BA French and Italian student and I’m so glad to be continuing my dance alongside my studies. It’s my job to arrange all the room bookings and rehearsal schedules to hopefully allow all the preparation for dance shows and classes to run smoothly! I started ballet when I was 4 and then picked up tap, ballroom and contemporary because I just wanted to do as much as I could. Dance has always been a release for me and the feeling of working as a team towards the amazing annual dance show Humans last year was incredible and I can’t wait to do another one!
Volunteering Officer: Vichy Hi, I’m Vichy and I’m a second year Biomedical Sciences student. After I stopped doing rhythmic gymnastics, I took up dancing, which I immediately developed an interest in! I mainly do contemporary but would love to try out other dance styles. Can’t wait to meet and dance with you all !!
Publicity Officer: Natsumi Hello I'm Natsumi (also known as Nat, Natty, Nutty and Natsu) and I'm the publicity officer for this year! I specialise in ballet and contemp, and also being loud and annoying during rehearsals! Dance soc is my number one UCL family and hope you will feel that way too xx I'm an avid turner so if you like spinning , whether it be head spins I'm sure we'll get along.
Tech Officer: Alkisti Hello everyone!!! I'm Alkisti and I'm in the second year of my Physics and Medical Physics degree. I'm your new tech officer (even though I'm not what you would call tech savvy - oops). I have been doing ballet since I was three, but i have also ventured out into the world of contemporary. DanceSoc has revived my love of all things dance and become my second home here at uni! If you see a girl singing out loud and dancing around campus it's me! Come say hi!
Freshers' Rep: Jonathan Hey everyone, I’m Jonathan Ong from Singapore and I’m a first year Mechanical Engineering with Finance student. I started dancing hip-hop when I was 12 but as the years went by, I was encouraged to try different styles and have since fallen in love with contemporary and dabbled around in every style in-between. UCL Dance Society was recommended to me by other Singaporeans months before I even got to London and with only being here just over a month, dance has already helped me find comfort in a new environment through meeting new, wonderful people and doing the thing I love the most. As your first-year rep, come talk to me about any ways we can make your first-year more amazing!
Freshers' Rep: Julie Hey everyone, my name's Julie and I'm a 1st year studying French and Russian! I started off my dancing life with ballet when I was 2 and have since branched out into the wonderful worlds of jazz, tap and contemporary (I don't think I'll ever be able to pick a favourite). Dance society has already been such an amazing experience as I've been able to meet so many inspiring and talented people who love to boogie just as much as I do! I'm really looking forward to being on the committee and helping to represent all you freshers out there, so whether you need something sorting out or just want to have a chat - hit me up! (Apart from, don't ask me for directions, because I can guarantee I'm just as lost as you!)
