Committee 23/24

Take a look at your committee for this year and put some names to the faces you'll see around!
Picture

Tia
 President

Hey lovely people🥰

My name is Tia (she/her) and I am beyond excited to be your dance society president! I am a third year pharmacology student and this is my second year on committee🙈 My role is to support the rest of your amazing committee and liaise with the SU to support the growth and development of our community🫶

I have been dancing for 19 years, dabbling in as many styles as possible, but my favourite has to be jazz (or any opportunity to serve facials really😉). I am hoping to get back into commercial this year with some choreographing on the side (maybe🫣).

My time in dance society has allowed me to make some of my most treasured friendships🫶 Not to mention all of the new experiences I have had - from competing to producing shows and everything in between. Regardless, you will ALWAYS hear me (probably before you see me tbf) from the side cheering you on. I cannot wait to be everybody’s biggest cheerleader🎉 Dance society really is for everybody, regardless of experience, so do not let that hold you back!!

If you are feeling overwhelmed or just want a chat then do not hesitate to drop me a message (@_tia.chasey)🥰.

Isabel
Vice President

Ayoo, I’m Isabel 🐻 (@annisabel_x), a third year Geography student and your new Vice-President!! My role is centred around our costume department and assisting Tia with all things Dance Soc.
Over the past years I have found a passion for hiphop especially popping and old-school styles of movement. I continue to use my culture and the people around me as inspiration; my biggest inspo being Usher 😏 (we locked in fr 🤝🏾). Dance Soc can be a beautiful place to create unbreakable bonds and experiment with new styles, this is something I aim to continue and amplify 🫶🏾. I truly believe everyone can dance and want to create the most stress-free and non competitive environment for both well seasoned and new dancers 🕺🕺
If you ever need me, you’ll deffo find me at the nearest and biggest freestyle cypher. Counting down the days till we meet you all !!

Seoyoung

Bloomsbury Producer

Hiya! I’m Seoyoung (@young._.kimi), a second year Social Sciences student, and I am your Blooms producer this year 😉

Blooms is the largest annual show of UCL Dance Society, which will be held in Bloomsbury Theatre in early March. My job is to plan, build, and complete the show with my lovely prod team while bringing joy to our society and the audiences. So, follow the @ucldanceblooms account, put the dates into your calendar, and join our journey of excitement!

I started dancing around 6 years ago, mostly just looking at the window reflection of myself copying K-Pop choreos :) I then moved on to more commercial styles, and now I mostly go for hip hop dances! Dance Society helped me a lot physically and mentally last year, especially providing such a safe space for me to explore and express myself. I, therefore, am very grateful and happy to be the Blooms producer and give back what I have gained by providing an opportunity to our members.

I will be your #1 contact for anything regarding Blooms, so feel free to DM me or drop me a message at [email protected]. I hope I can see you all in Blooms this year🫶!

Alisha
Transcendance Producer

Hiya <3
I’m Alisha (@alisha.gail), a 2nd year student studying philosophy and economics and I’m very excited to be your TD producer for this year ✨!
Transcendance (TD) is UCL Dance society’s annual inter-university competition and was one of the biggest highlights of my fresher’s experience🌟. Watching and performing amazing choreos in a supportive/hyped environment is def something you can’t miss out on 🙌🏼!!
I’ve always been a commercial/hip-hop girlie at heart but would love to try out other styles. You may catch me in some of UCL’s weekly classes 💃 so don’t be afraid to say hello if you do!
I hope to see you join TD’25 whether as a performer or an audience member ♥️. I guarantee you’ll won’t regret it 🤭!
For more info about TD check out our insta @transcendance.ucl or dm me 😉

Zoya
Resident Choreographer

hey hi! im zoya, a third year pir student, and this year I’ll be your resident choreographer!🫶
I’ll be your first point of contact for any advice or concerns regarding choreographing but will also be at all rehearsals and full casts running finales and leading warm ups i.e. embarrassing myself with my insufficient stamina. :)
my dance experience is pretty much defined by free-styling in the kitchen when I was growing up. therefore my style is pretty open including hiphop, contemporary and a tad of commercial. dance soc has given me the opportunity to choreograph for a variety of shows illustrating just how inclusive it is for those who haven’t had training. regardless of your level or style, you have an opportunity to create, and even if you need help translating the ideas into routines, then I’ll be here, more than happy to help <3
i'm always down to talk so feel free to message me @_xoya_ or [email protected] :)

Mia
Scheduling Officer

heya <3 my name is Mia (she/her) a final year Classics student and I am going to be scheduling officer this year !!
I have been dancing as long as i can remember, starting with ballet at aged 3, then tap, and then doing a year of flamenco. Ultimately I started doing contemporary and fell in love with the style and have been doing it for 10 years, though recently I've been trying to move into commercial.
I am going to be the person booking all the rooms for rehearsals (and almost everything else) this year. I know how important a good room is for rehearsals after doing choreo for shows these past two years, so it will be my goal to find the best rooms for everyone.
I love the community and warmth that I have found in this society so I want to help everyone else feel welcomed. feel free to message me on insta (@_mia.frankie_) or email me ([email protected]) if you have any questions and otherwise can't wait to dance with you this year <3

Ksenia
Communications Officer

Hey! My name is Ksenia and I’m going to be your communications officer this year. My main roles are managing the Insta and the weekly mailer, so any DMs or emails will be answered by yours truly 😋
I’m a second year Maths and CompSci student. As my name gives away, I’m Russian, but I’m a Londoner at heart - I’ve lived here my whole life (TFL has all my money 😒)
I started dance when I was around 10, watching tap videos on YouTube, using a wardrobe shelf as a tap board. Then, when I went to dance school, I also started jazz, ballet, and commercial. In my first year, I tried new styles; heels and aerial silks particularly stuck with me.
If I’m not in an IOE room rehearsing for dance, I’m locked up in the library coding (I’m always behind 😝) or downing pitchers at Spoons with the girls.
Can’t wait to meet you all, come say hi if you see me on campus, or feel free to drop me a message @kseniaakuzmina 💕

Yuna
Welfare & Volunteering Officer

Hi everyone!
My name is Yuna, and I’m super excited to be your Welfare and Volunteering Officer this year ☺️ I’m a second year Arts and Sciences student with a focus on Psychology and Biology; I’m interested in pursuing Performing Arts Therapy, helping individuals improve their well-being through creative self-expression.
I’ve been dancing since I was 3 – after experimenting with several genres (Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Musical Theatre), my favourite styles are now Contemporary and Hip Hop! Dance Society has supported me through so much and my heart feels so full to be able to give back to and show my gratitude for this loving community by continuing to foster the safe space it’s given me.
I’ll be your primary contact if you have any issues in and out of dance or if you’d like to talk about anything; you can contact me at [email protected] or through my WhatsApp, and I’ll be more than happy to help <3 I’ll also be running the dance volunteering project – it’s such a heartwarming experience you wouldn’t want to miss out on, so come along and make some wholesome memories with us :)
I’m looking forward to walking beside you in your unique dance journey and in this journey that we call life 🫶
Take care,
Yuna x
