President: Julie Hello! My name's Julie and I'm a 2nd year studying French and Russian :) I started off my dancing life with ballet when I was 2 and have since branched out into the wonderful worlds of jazz, tap and contemporary (I don't think I'll ever be able to pick a favourite though). I also might even try hip hop this year and that will be a sight to see! I'm so excited to be president of the most wonderful and welcoming society full of inspiring people, and I'm really looking forward to the year ahead.
Please feel free to talk to me if you have any problems, ask me questions and generally just have a chat about anything and everything! (Also if you see a very short person bouncing about the room, then that's probably me!)
Treasurer: Jonathan Hey everyone, I’m Jonathan Ong from Singapore and I’m a second year Mechanical Engineering with Business Finance student. I started dancing hip-hop when I was 12 but as the years went by, I was encouraged to try different styles but hip hop is still my home. Dance Society made my first year in university super special and I hope to carry on the amazing work the Dance Society has been doing into the next year as your Treasurer.
I can’t wait to meet everyone and bring the opportunity to dance to everyone.
Vice President: Natsumi hello. i am Nat (also known as: Natty, Nutty, Natsu, Natsumi, Uranus)! i just do some ballet and maybe some other stuff sometimes, one of them being biochemistry?? over the past 2 years dance soc has become my big giant family and hope it’ll be the same for you~ the dance friends are my ~forever friends~ and maybe if you’re (un)lucky you’ll be stuck with me tagging you in animals in predicaments posts… just FYI iim a DOG PERSON :~) but i also low key own a cat in london ( : you also may know me from doing publicity last year ^_^
if u see me round uni (rare as a kyogre) plz say hi (or throw a pokeball, both acceptable) 💕
Bloomsbury Producer: Denise Hey friends!! It’s me again!!! SURPRISE I DANCE
Am back to produce Dance soc’s biggest annual showcase, the Bloomsbury Show! Honestly sorry not much to say, I think me being on the committee for another year is just an indicator of how great this society is!! We’re a little bit intimidating at first glance but I promise once you get behind the pretend swag exterior we’re all just a bunch of noobs who have gathered together over our love for moving to some tunezz. It’s a great place to expand on things you’ve learnt, step (haha geddit) out of your comfort zone and even just to start dancing! I think we’re supposed to include some info about what our dance background is but honestly at this point I just kind of do everything~~
If you see me around uni just wave!~ (I look angry but that’s just my resting face dw)
Communications Officer: Natalie Hey palsss! I’m Natalie (but please call me Nat) and I’m a second year Pharmacy student and your comms officer for this year!! I’ve been dancing for around 3 years now and started off with contemporary, but I dabble everywhere and anywhere from Jazz to Hip hop to Street Jazz to Urban to Salsa now (but being good at them is another question…. lmao). I love meeting new people, learning new choreos and styles all the time, and I’ll be your resident ‘walking meme’ (or so my friends say HAHA), so feel free to say hi and be awarded with moon faces and over-hyper waves (;
Of course, do get in touch with me if you have any queries regarding membership, classes, competitions, the committee etc etc yeyyy super eggcited to meet all of you!!! :D
Liaisons Officer: Vu Hi, I’m Vu :D Ya boii is liaisons officer for this year!! Yeah, apparently I do duh dancing here and there but also study Biology when I have time (usually no free-time for that). I’ve been dancing Urban Hip Hop for about 7-8 years with some skips but no breaks in Dance Society! <3 I love meeting all the new faces, trying out new styles, and be part of a diverse, big dance family - all achieved during my 2 years at this society! Whether you are a newbie or an experienced dancer, we as a huge community are always open to welcome you :))
If you have any questions regarding our weekly classes, amazing teachers or workshops just hmu OR just say hi when you see me around uni for a quick chat (please?) See you on classes!
Competitions Coordinator: Ellie Hi everyone! I’m Ellie and I’m a second year Neuroscience student, but more importantly, I am also this year’s competitions co-ordinator! I’ve been dancing for longer than I can remember, to the point my ballet shoes have become slippers for round the house, but I only started competitive dancing at UCL last year. It’s super friendly and as the person in charge of looking after the competitions dance family you can bet I will be the cool dance Mum dancing in the aisles rooting for everyone at comps.
Feel free to say hi if you see me around campus to chat about anything, you’ll probably see me ball-changing and tapping my way down Malet street on the regular!
TrancenDance Producer: Isabella Helloooo!!! I’m Isabella, a second year history of art student, and a super hyped producer of Transcendance, the UCL hosted dance competition. I’ve been dancing since I was about 2 years old, and have dabbled in a few styles, but you’ll probably catch me tippity tapping wherever I go.
I’ve met so many great people in dance soc and I’m excited to meet more. I know I look generally unamused but I swear I’m friendly so just say hey : )
Resident Choreographer: Emma Hellooooo it me!! :3 I’m Emma and I’ll be your res choreo for the year :) I’m a third year Chemical Engineering student, and started dancing when I first came to UCL 2 years ago. I’m mostly street and hiphop based, but have been dabbling in break, contemp and jazz in the past year; I’d love to put myself out there even more and try more genres this year! My experience with dance might be limited to 2 years of open classes, and UCL shows and competitions, but I’m always open to giving and receivin feedback, making new friends, and of course, learning from you as well!
Please feel free to say hi when you see me around, I promise I’m much friendlier than I look (rbf problems lol). Dance soc has given me such an amazing 2 years so far, I’ve truly found a family so far away from home. I can’t wait to see what the next year brings, and I’m looking forward to meeting all of you soon! :)
Social Secretary: Giselle Hi gang!! My names giselle and i’m your social sec this year (more or less a glorified party planner/pizza order-er). My dance training started by copying my older sister and starting ballet when I was 3. Much to the horror of my mother/taxi driver, I fell in love with it and picked up tap and jazz a bit later. Unfortunately my destiny as a prima remains tragically unfulfilled so i can now often be found despairing over my degree in the cruciform, sometimes with a bottle of wine (medic lyf) so if you see me in this or any other context be sure to say hi.
I joined UCL dance soc to take a class here and there but after just a year i’m so blessed to be a part of such a tight-knit family & i can’t wait to welcome even more people into the society!
Scheduling Officer: Alice Hey everyone! I’m Alice and I am a second year student studying Geography and also will be Scheduling Officer for DanceSoc this year. I had my first experience of Dance when I took a Ballet class as one tiny 2-year-old and have been hooked ever since. I usually like to play it safe and stick with my favourite styles including Ballet and Contemporary. However, last year I tried Jazz with DanceSoc which was so much fun and also amusing as my body rolls are rather hopeless. Please do come and say hi if you see me around, I would love to meet you and talk about all things within the wonderful world of dance.
If we do meet, please be prepared for me to give you a short speech on the many reasons why you should get involved with DanceSoc! :) <3
Volunteering Officer: Clara Hii I’m Clara, a 4th year medical student. I’ve been dancing since I was 3, my dance roots consist of ballet and rhythmic gymnastics training. Since joining dance soc, I’ve been able to dabble in various other styles, and I’ve just had so much fun and amazing memories over the past 3 years. I’ll be leading our volunteering projects this year, so join me in spreading our love for dance!
Oh, and if u see me in uni, chances are I will look v tired, don’t worry bc that’s my usual state, and ofc pls feel free to say hi/wave/smile!
Publicity Officer: Tan Hi friends I’m Tan, your publicity officer this year. I am a first year PhD student in medical physics and this will be my third year spent with UCL Dance Soc. Dance Soc has given me a family here in London and I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything. I’ve been dancing for about 3 years now and I’ve mostly done Hip Hop.
I want to go more out of my comfort zone and try new things this coming year and as publicity officer I’m looking forward to making all those T-shirts and Facebook banners (and flyers and videos and every other bits and bobs this job includes)!
Tech Officer: Tara Hello friends! I’m Tara, second year Arts and Sciences student (yes, the ones with the free doughnuts) and I will be your tech officer for the year. Dance Society pretty much took over my first year and I can’t wait for that to continue into this year. Before coming to UCL my dance background mainly consisted of making covers and Hip Hop but in DanceSoc I’ve fallen in love with our Jazz classes! I sound fairly sarcastic all the time so don’t let that scare you off, I promise I can be friendly (see smiley picture above).
If you see a girl standing around with a tripod and a camera blocking the aisles of shows, don’t be afraid to holla at me!
Freshers' Rep: Maddie Hello hello I’m Maddie, a Fresher studying Comparative Literature with Spanish – a course which I still don’t really understand and plan to neglect by dancing and socialising with Dance soc alllllllll year. I started going to Ballet classes when I was about 4 and fell in love with Jazz when I started it a couple of years later and I still prioritise in those two styles. I’ve done a lil’ bit of contemporary so want to get into that properly and, you never know, you might see me being silly in others styles this year (it’s so good for the money I just wanna do it all!) I’ve often been described as ‘flamboyant’ when I dance so just look out for a small ginger girl dancing somewhat untidily but with loadssss of energy and passion! I’m super excited to be a Fresher rep for Dance soc so, especially if you’re a newbie like me, come say hi :)
Freshers' Rep: Michelle Hiiiii friends!!! My name is Michelle, a first year psychology student, and I will be your Freshers rep for this year (Yayy so excited!). I started with traditional Chinese dance when I was 3 and immediately fell in love with it. During my early teenage years, my friends and I started doing covers for songs (mostly Kpop) and since then I’ve dabbled into street, contemporary and hiphop. In my old school, there weren’t any dance-related activities (they were more into music) so I had to suppress my dancing instincts a lot for 6 years. But finally there is UCL DANCE SOC!!!Joining the society is the best decision I’ve made here! Everyone in the dance soc is so friendly, the committee is super encouraging and I love coming to dance soc events.
Btw, if you see a girl with crazy long hair bouncing around, that’s probably me. Pls say hi to me or whip your hair (preferred)! Looking forward to having a great year with everyone!!!
