President:
Giselle

Hi frens! My name’s Giselle and I’m your president this year. I’m a third year who studies medicine some of the time and sits in Student Centre cafe with a Five Guys Deliveroo most of the time. After trying a heck load of different societies in my first year, I swiftly decided dance society would be what I jeopardise my degree over and I’ve never looked back! These days, due to nothing but laziness, I tend make people dance FOR me by choreographing for them. Contemp and jazz are my favourite styles to choreograph, but I still dance tippity tap as I have always been a stompy bish. Dance society has been such an integral part of my life for the past two years and I can’t wait to expand the family to loads of new people, beginner and seasoned dancers alike! Some people mistake my resting bitch face, “tall person energy” and fashionable proficiency on Depop for SCARINESS but I can assure you I am e x t r e m e l y uncool and always love to chat about anything, dance related or no. Come at me with a Friday Night Dinner reference and we will be friends immediately. See you soon bambinos!

Treasurer:
Flora

Hello everyone!! My name is Flora, I will be your treasurer this year!💸 I’m a second year BASc Arts and Sciences student (yes the course where you do everything you want; I focus on Law, Management and Psychology)... but I mainly dance lol. As a treasurer, I will be in charge of this year’s budget and the Freshers’ Show! I am so excited to meet all the new freshers!! 💓

As a kid, I moved around a lot 🇰🇷🇨🇦🇮🇩 and dance has always been my best way of making friends. I was mainly into K-Pop (hmu if you like K-Pop!! 💗💙) dance covers until UCL. Last year, I was involved in few Hip-Hop pieces for several shows, and DanceSoc exposed me to so many other genres: I am currently obsessed with waacking! 😍

Through Dance society, I was able to seamlessly adapt to UCL, and it is truly the best way to meet other inspiring and amazing people like you yourself! I am so excited to meet & get to know all of you guys! As a BASc student, I will be running around the campus so please do come and say hello 💜
Love,
Flora ❤️

Vice President:
Maddie

Helloooo soy Maddie and I’m super excited to be your Vice President and Welfare Officer for the 19/20 academic year! I’m a second year Comparative Literature student (don’t ask me what it is, I don’t know, and the fact that I made this joke in last year’s introduction is frankly worrying) but Dance Soc is where I spend all my time and where I’ve made my closest friends! I was Freshers’ Rep last year so I’m excited to dive right in again this year to organise, produce, be there for your questions/concerns/worries and, most importantly, be a friendly face that you can always approach/talk to in the society! My love for Dance stems from my love for performing in general but I’ve been fortunate to take dance classes (casually/intermittently) since a young age. My forte is Jazz but last year I branched out to try Street and Tap, both of which I hope to do again this year! I also dabble in Ballet and Contemporary. I’m super keen to do some choreo with UCL Dance Soc this year but, most of all, I’m pumped to meet, do classes, go to socials and dance with you all!
I’m a lil bit silly and loud but I’m not at all scary so say hi if you see me around or slide in my DMs if you already have a question xx

Bloomsbury Producer:
Sophie

Hey peeps!!! My name is Sophie and I’m a third year Economics student 💸 but more importantly your blooms producer!! I danced a lil bit when I was v small, even still going to ballet lessons with a broken leg at 4 (lol talk about dedication🤕) but properly started lessons when I was 12. I’ve done pretty much everything at some point(e) from ballet to tap and street to musical theatre although I really cannot sing lmao ~ at UCL I’ve mainly stuck to tippity tapping and jazzing (& a fair bit of contemp in first year). Performing on stage has always been a highlight of my dancing life and I’m SO excited to be producing this show for y’all!!! If you see me around uni please say hi, I’m much friendlier than I look I promise 🧡

Communications Officer:
Erica

Hello 🐝s! I’m Erica, a second-year History student and your Communications Officer for the 2019/20 academic year. You’ll be hearing a lot from me through mailers, facebook, and more! Before uni, I lived in China. Coming to London was a daunting experience for me as I had negative friends in this foreign city. Dance Soc really became a home away from home and I’ve met some of my closest friends here! I started dancing Chinese Traditional Dance as a kid and kept at it until I quit in 8th grade ( a big mistake ;-) ). I later joined my high school dance club in my sophomore year and, after dabbling in many styles and realizing that I was #veryoutofplace, I grew to love Street/Hip hop. I also dabble in choreography and am keen to develop it further. My special skill is being kinda flexible but unable to spot or turn properly (nice). I am somehow both extremely quiet and incredibly loud and I’m very sorry about that. I’m usually somewhere around the main campus so if you see me around please please please drop a hello!
Also, just to be clear, my picture is absolutely a flex.

Liaisons Officer:
Daniel

Hi I'm Daniel , second year at Econ and I'll be the Liasion Officer for this year!

I've been dancing for 5 years and mostly focusing on urban. Ever since uni however, dance soc gave me plentiful chances to expand my style and now I'm an oldschool , jazzy fan too!
My job is basically making sure everyone get the best teacher we can find for our regular classes and and inviting talented dancers to run their workshops! There will also be a showcase for everyone of u who came to our classes, so come more often and vibe with us!

Competitions Coordinator:
Freya

Hi everyone! My name is Freya. I’m a second year History, Politics, and Economics Student and I’m honored to be your Competition Teams Coordinator for the 2019/2020 year! My mom signed me up for dance when I was about 6 years old- now, I couldn’t imagine my life without it. At UCL, you can usually find me clickity clacking and flippity flapping in tap performances, but I really enjoy learning from my talented peers and trying other styles- especially Hip Hop. I’m always running around all over main campus, so if you see me, feel free to stop me and say hello!  We’ve got so many great things planned for this upcoming year, and I’m so excited to meet you all and welcome you into our dance family.

TrancenDance Producer:
Michelle

Hellooo! My name is Michelle and I’m a second year Psychology student. My big job in the committee this year is to produce UCL Dance Soc’s annual inter-university dance competition called TranscenDance✨✨which will be in December 2019. I’m super excited to serve Dance Soc again after working as Freshers’ Rep last year 💖.

My dance journey started with Chinese Traditional Dance at the age of 3 and then somehow I stopped in middle school🤷🏻‍♀️… then I came into contact with Street and some HipHop because of Kpop (yes another Kpop fan here😁). I didn’t used to dance a lot during secondary school until I came to UCL. Since then, I’ve been exploring new styles such as Contemporary, Salsa and Jazz. This year I plan on dancing/trying a bit of everything (except for Breaking🤡…) just to have lots of fun haha. When I’m not rehearsing/sleeping, you would normally spot me writing endless lab reports 😵 in main library/Bedford Way/IOE/student centre. Come and say hi/wave at me plssss!

Time spent at Dance society is definitely the happiest! One thing I’m quite proud of is that I have participated (in different ways) in all Dance soc shows+1 TranscenDance in the year 2018-2019😎. It was motivating to see all the high-quality dances/shows we produced and I look forward to creating more happiness with everyone this year!

Resident Choreographer:
Yuki

Howdy, howdy, ho! Yuki’s the name, Res Choreoing’s the game. And what that means is that I’m responsible for the upkeep of dances in the society, and function mainly as the choreographers’ fulcrum when both necessary and unnecessary. In short, my job is to make sure that on a choreographic level you have a sizzling time as a dancer, and choreographer!

When on duty you can find me dressed like something out of an 80s Fitness DVD; think wristbands, sweatbands, high socks, PG-16 rated short shorts & my trusty megaphone. Out of my Res. Choreographer mantle, catch me in some normal civilian clothes like the one above.

Any questions you have concerning choreography e.g. how to get into it, any help you need throughout the process, tips, hacks, pointers, sage advice, a new perspective, fresh eyes, critical input - you name it and I’m your go-to homeboy!
So just say hey, send a message, pen a missive, write in verse - whatever floats your boat, and will get back to you ASAP.
Stay saucy, keep it frosty,
Yuki.
(I do English Lit. btw)

Social Secretary:
Hana

Hey everyone! My name is Hana Bermingham and I’m a 2nd-year Geography student🌍 I’m very excited to be your social sec this year!

I started dancing ballet at a (VERY👶🏻) young age of 1 and a half, SOOO I guess you can say dance has always been a part of who I am😂. I started attending weekly ballet classes and joined a bunch of masterclasses and youth programs as well. Eventually, I joined an art school in Singapore called SOTA where I was able to dabble in other dance forms other than ballet such as jazz, contemporary and modern on almost a daily basis. Coming to UCL and joining DanceSoc has given me the opportunity to try out even more dance styles and train/dance around people who are insanely talented!

Through this society, I’ve made some amazing life-long friends and I hope as social secretary I am able to organise socials that will allow everyone to meet and build long-lasting friendships. If you see me around campus please come up and say hi (I don't bite I promise)! Can’t wait to welcome you all to this wonderful society💖

If you have any questions or concerns do feel free to dm on fb or instagram! I’ll be more than happy to help you out xx - Hana🌸(花)

Scheduling Officer:
Ben

hello everyone! I’m Ben and I’m really looking forward to being your scheduling officer this year - essentially I’ll be in charge of sorting out rehearsals and finding you all rooms to practice in! I’m a third year Human Sciences student which is basically a glorified human biology degree with my particular interests being in genetics and linguistics. I’m a Londoner born and raised and only started dancing last year; as someone who was once more comfortable on a rugby pitch I never expected to feel so at home after joining dance society, but it really did make my second year at ucl!

While street and hip hop are where I found my feet I’m always looking to try my (jazz) hand at other styles :) I hope to be a friendly face around campus and at classes and I’m really looking forward to meeting and getting to know as many of you as possible! Feel free to get in touch, whether you have questions about the society, need recommendations on where to eat or just want to chat ☺️

Picture
Volunteering Officer:
Jae

Hello friends!! I’m Jae, a 2nd year History of Art student and your volunteering officer this year :))  My super varied dance background consists of ballet and nothing else but DanceSoc has given me the opportunity to come out of my comfort zone and embarrass myself trying out other styles like jazz and contemporary (still trying to branch out more tho loll).  As someone who had never lived anywhere else other than Mexico City, I was very nervous at the beginning but joining this society has made my uni life the most amazing it can be! I got to meet some of my closest friends and learn from extremely talented people. I can’t wait to meet all of you, invite you to spread our love for dancing through the volunteering projects that I’ll be leading and ofc, dance with you <3!! If you wanna know more about volunteering, talk about food & feminism, or just need a hug, pleaaase hmu cuz I’m your gal!!

Picture
Publicity Officer:
Chloe

HELLO EVERYONE it’s me Chloe L e o n g  (I know there’s another Chloe on the committee hehe), I’m a 2nd year Linguistics student (no I don’t speak 300 languages) and I’m super excited to be your publicity officer for this year!! As any asian 💁🏻‍♀️kid I started off with ballet, jazz and rhythmic gymnastics, but my passion for dancing didn’t really kick-start until about 4 years ago, when I developed an intense interest in K-pop choreography (yes K-pop peeps HMU P L S), hip-hop and street. Joining Dancesoc has been the greatest decision of my uni life so far as I got to meet so many like-minded (dance) friends, dabble in other genres such as contemporary, and also partake in so many incredible shows (my knees died from all those rehearsals rip)! Unfortunately as a Linguistics student I’m mostly stuck in Chandler House which is god knows how far away from main campus, but I run around all over the place (you’ll usually find me in the neighbourhood hip cafes cuz I’m kool like dat) so if you do find me (congrats) pleaaaseee come say hi!! I can’t wait to meet all of you and welcome you into this amazing community 💙✨

Picture
Tech Officer:
Chloe
Heyy Guys, I’m Chloe (another one 😉) and I’m your Tech Officer this year. I'm a second year (attempting to) study molecular biology.
I hadn’t really danced before I came to UCL, but I wanted to try something out of my comfort zone and I'm so glad I did because I ended up falling in love with it!

I’ve been to ballet, tap and jazz classes in first year and I’m planning to try some new styles in year two (so if you see someone who clearly doesn’t know what they’re doing, it’s probably me!).  I’m really excited to be getting more involved this year, and if you're thinking about trying it out, I honestly can't recommend it enough (my flatmates last year were all very bored of hearing me rave about dance soc!)

If you spot me around uni please smile/wave/say hi (just don't ask about my dogs, you won't stop hearing about them 😉)  💛

Picture
Freshers' Rep:
Selina
Hello all!! I’m Selina, a first-year BASc Arts and Sciences student, and I’ll be one of your Freshers’ Reps this year! I’ve been dancing almost my entire life - I started ballet when I was 4 years old, and have done a little bit of everything since then from acro to tap. My main dance styles now are hip hop, street, urban, and kpop (hmu for free kpop lessons any day! huge ONCE here 😩). I’m originally from Toronto 🇨🇦 and yes, we Canadians are extremely nice and polite so feel free to approach me with  any questions/concerns/ feedback or even just to say hi!

I’ve already been pretty involved in DanceSoc already, as hopefully some of y’all have seen me choreograph for 24Hr Show and Freshers’ Show and soon you’ll be seeing me run around helping Michelle produce TranscenDance! Having been a dancer, choreographer, and teacher in the past, I really wanted to be your Freshers’ Rep this year because I know how hard it can be as a complete beginner or even seasoned pro to join a new society, especially one as large as DanceSoc, but everyone has been so, so welcoming and it really is such a fun community to be a part of. I’m so excited to be on the committee and to see what this year has in store! See you around! ☺

Freshers' Rep:
Jordan
Hey guys! I’m Jordan and I’m super excited to be one of your fresher’s reps for this year 😊. As the title indicates, I am a fresher (lol obviously) studying Medical Physics. I’ve lived in California all my life, so moving to London was a big change for me (especially the weather lol – I think I’ve seen it rain more here than during my entire life in Cali) but Dance Soc has literally been amazing and truly made me feel at home here 💕
Although I tried literally everything when I was younger (tap, contemp, hip hop … the whole mix), I mainly stuck to ballet as I got older. As I had really only danced all my life, I was a lil burned out when I joined and was a bit unsure about if I wanted to continue but dance soc completely blew me away. It gave me a fun, chill place to explore all the styles all over again and fall back in love with things that I haven’t done for years! Currently you’ll find me doing jazz, ballet, and contemp, but I’m always looking to try new styles and meet new people :0 If you see me around campus, please please come say hi!! I’m typically the one falling over all of the things – if you didn’t know I danced, no one would ever guess with how clumsy I am 🙃
