Alara
 President

Hey everyone! I’m Alara, your president this year. I’m supposed to be a third year Psychology student, but I realistically spend more of my time involved with DanceSoc. That’s why after being on committee last year I had the *brilliant* idea to run for president. All jokes aside, I’m so excited to be able to become even more involved with Dance Society and get everything back to in person after the difficult times last year. I can’t wait to meet all our new and returning members – hopefully in person this time 🙂 – and work with my amazing committee to make the society livelier and more vibrant than it’s ever been before!
I started dancing when I was three and haven’t looked back since - my mum still won’t let me forget the story of how I would get mad at her for telling me I was too young to start going to ballet classes. To this day I cannot find anything else that makes me happier. Despite that I still remember being absolutely terrified to go to my first dance society audition so I know exactly what it is like to join the society and how nerve wracking it can be. But I hope to see everyone whether you’re a beginner or a pro joining in with all the activities that we have to offer.
My uni experience would not have been the same without DanceSoc so I hope I can share that experience with all our members this year. Feel free to come and say hi whenever if you see me around campus – I’m usually in the student centre enjoying a cup coffee and not getting much work done. And looking forward to meeting you all soon!

Vicky
Treasurer

Hi everyone! My name is Vicky, your new Dance Society Treasurer! 💸❤️‍🔥🥰💫
I will be responsible for this year’s budget and our highly anticipated annual Freshers’ show! I hope to be a friendly face to welcome new students and to put on an excellent production to showcase all UCL’s amazing new talent!I took ballet and tap classes from the age of 3, though I can’t say I am much good at either yet. I have stuck mainly to contemp since joining UCL, which I love and hope to continue, along with other dance styles this year!
I like reading (makes the northern line so much more bearable), lounging around doing nothing, long walks at sunset, red wine, and good times with friends 🙂 I love a good chat and meeting new people so please do say hello if you see me around. You can usually find me sat in a café “working” away…
I can’t wait to meet you all in person soon!
Lots of love, Vicky X

Emma
Vice President

Heyyy, I’m Emma, a second-year Social Sciences student, and I’m so excited to be your Vice President this year. Dance soc was such an important part of my first year as classes and shows massively helped me stay sane during lockdowns and isolations. I can’t wait to see how fab the society will be when everything’s in-person and am looking forward to playing a part in making sure it all runs smoothly. My main responsibilities will be to organise and run the costume cupboard and to produce the 24-hour show ❤️
My love for dance really stems from my love for all things performing as I started dancing through Musical Theatre when I was around 14. Since joining UCL last year, I have started to focus a lot more on dance and tried out a whole range of styles. My favs have defo become jazz and tap so I’m sure you’ll spot me doing a lot more of these two this year.

Hazel

Bloomsbury Producer

Hi!!! I’m Hazel from Singapore, currently in my final year doing Psychology. I grew up with Chinese and Contemporary Dance but am always open to trying out new styles. Outside of dance, I like travelling and just having new experiences in general. I’m so excited to take on the role of Bloomsbury Producer this year and can’t wait to bring Dance Soc’s biggest show back to UCL live. Blooms prod team has some amazing initiatives in store to make this year’s show fun and inclusive, so keep your eyes peeled for announcements (@ucl_dance_blooms)!

Robin
Liaison Officer

Hi everyone,
My name is Robin, I’m a third year physics student. I started with the Dance Society as a beginner when I joined UCL. I’ve followed the beginner jazz and contemporary classes for the past two years and also had the opportunity to participate in a couple dance shows.
This year I am the society’s liaison officer, serving as an intermediary between the society and our teachers. My main task is to make sure that classes run smoothly every week but I will also be in charge of producing the class showcase, a show during which dancers who have followed classes get to perform a choreography they have learnt.
Finally, I am also in charge of organising workshops throughout the year. I have a long list of exciting opportunities drawn up and I will be organising a poll for Dance Soc members to vote on what they find most interesting, so stay tuned!
I will often be present during classes to represent the committee, so don’t hesitate to approach me if you have questions or just to chat. 😊
See you all very soon on campus!

Sophie
Communications Officer

Hi everyone! I’m Sophie and I'm your Communications officer!
My role is to make sure everyone knows what’s going on in this jam-packed year at Dance Soc! We know that after a long year of social dis-dancing, we’re all desperate to get things back to normal. There’s a lot going on so stay up to date by following our Facebook and Instagram pages, and sign up to our newsletter for your weekly dose of all things dance (all written by yours truly, link to subscribe in bio). I’m also super excited about producing the Freshers’ show this year because it’s always an amazing show and a great way to meet our new members.
Since coming to UCL I’ve somehow found myself doing all styles of dance including Contemporary, Tap, Ballet, Jazz and Street?! Whether you’re doing classes, shows, competitions, or socials, I’m sure I’ll see you around. I’m always happy to chat and if you have any questions just come up and ask/message me!
Outside of dance soc I’m a 2nd year Arts and Sciences student and you can often find me getting lost around uni, and if I make it to the library you can easily distract me with some nice food (see above), TikToks and nights out.
See you all soon!!!

Farhana
Resident Choreographer

Hey everyone! I'm Farhana and I'm your new resident choreographer. I'm a second-year Psychology student and this will also be my second year on the dance soc committee! I’m super excited to get to know everyone in person this year and I can’t wait to dance with all of you. As resident choreographer, I’d like to encourage and motivate others whilst keeping a positive environment for dancers and choreographers alike. I’ve been dancing since I was 2 and started choreographing my own dance steps when I was 13 so choreographing is something I thoroughly enjoy doing whether alone or with others.  On top of that, I enjoy dancing in a bunch of different styles like street, hip hop, jazz and contemp. I’d like to say I’m a pretty approachable and friendly person so if you’re ever stuck or need some inspo for choreo, feel free to drop a dm or message cos I’d be happy to help!

Gillian
Scheduling Officer

Hi, I'm Gillian and I'm so excited to be your scheduling officer this year! I'm in my final year studying environmental geosciences (yes that means I love rocks ).
I joined dance soc in first year as a total noob, took my first dance class ever in the infamous south quad 1 and never looked back. Dance has since become a huge part of my life and I honestly couldn't be more grateful. You'll probably see me flailing about in hip hop, street and contemporary classes, so feel free to say hi and ask me any questions about the society, or even just to chat and be friends!
I can't wait to meet all of you (in person!!) and welcome you into our dance fam

Marie
Transcendance Producer

Hi, my name is Marie, I’m a second year Natural Sciences student specialising in Physics and Physical Chemistry and this year I am very excited to be your Transcendance Producer! I started dancing at a very young age and have not stopped for a day since then. I have been dancing and competing in various styles such as contemporary, hip hop, ballet, and jazz, and therefore joining UCL’s dance society was an obvious decision for me.
Call me crazy but I have always loved the competitive side of dance and I really enjoyed being in UCL’s competition team last year both as a dancer and a choreographer, so it will be a fun experience to take part in competitions from another perspective this year. I’m looking forward for Transcendance to resume its original format as an in-person competition and I will do my absolute best to make this an inclusive and unforgettable event for all participants. TD is also an incredible opportunity for dancers of all styles and universities to meet each other, so make sure to keep up with all things TD, and I hope to see as many of you there as possible!

Nikita

Tech Officer

Hi everyone! My name’s Nikita, I am going into my second year of BSc Economics and I’m excited to be your tech officer! I got into dancing when I came to UCL, but due to all the lockdowns, I was an active dancer only for 3 months (consider this as the start of my dancing journey). There is a lot for me to work on and I’m excited to progress alongside you all
For now my primary focus is hip-hop and K-pop, but I’m also interested in styles like locking, house and others!
As a tech officer, I am responsible for all (almost) digital stuff like Youtube, website, filming, etc. But don’t hesitate to ask me anything else! I’ll be all over the society this year hehe
I have way too many interests (and I REALLY struggle sticking with them), so there are high chances that we’ll have at least one interest in common which we can talk about x
I’m jazzed about the upcoming year and I hope to meet a lot of new friends. Cya around!

Jordan
Social Secretary

Hi everyone I’m Jordan! I’m a second year Russian and History student and I’m so excited to be your social sec for this year. With life returning to more or less normal I can’t wait to organise fab events and get everyone involved in the socials!
I started dancing when I was little, focusing on ballet and jazz- recently I’ve started to do more contemporary too. One of my favourite aspects of dance are the performances and I have loved taking part in DanceSoc shows in my first year!
I’m super excited for this year and I can’t wait to meet lots of new members!
Picture

Roisin
Comps Coordinator

Hi! I’m Roisin, a 3rd year History student and your competitions coordinator for this year. I’m responsible for everything regarding competitions and the competition team, including auditions, full casts and transport. Please don’t hesitate to message me if you have any questions about dance soc or anything more generally about UCL!
I’ve been dancing since I was two, and competed nationally and internationally in ballet, tap, jazz and contemporary. At UCL, I have been involved with the competition team and performed in shows since freshers, and this will be my second year on committee.
I can’t wait for in-person dancing and socials this year, and finally getting back to pirouetting on the IOE carpeted floors!!
